On March 8, 2025, K’ómoks First Nation ratified its constitution and a treaty with the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada. 91% of the Nation voted with an overwhelming majority voting in favour of both.
“This has been a momentous day for our Nation,” Chief Councillor Nicole Rempel proclaimed. “The Treaty vote is a critical democratic process for our community… hɛhɛwčɩs; Hayuthela la xens.”
After this historic vote, K’ómoks First Nation will spend the next few years developing laws and building its administrative structure for self-governance. K’ómoks leadership looks forward to working with their neighbours and exploring future economic opportunities for members.
Mandell Pinder LLP congratulates K’ómoks First Nation as well as K’ómoks First Nation Member and MP lawyer Kim Webber who has spent most of her life engaged in the nearly 30-year treaty process.
