Tahltan and BC Enter Consent-based Decision-making Agreement

The Tahltan Central Government and British Columbia have signed a landmark consent-based agreement for decision-making in relation to a major mine in Tahltan Territory.

The agreement means that Tahltan and the Province must both approve the mine before it can go ahead. The agreement is the first consent-based decision-making agreement under the Province’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and represents an important milestone in the recognition of Indigenous jurisdiction over lands and resources in the Province.

Mandell Pinder LLP was proud to support Tahltan in the negotiation of this agreement. For more information please see: https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2022PREM0034-000899
