Professional Summary

Mary is a member of Tsq’escen’ (Canim Lake). 

Mary joined Mandell Pinder as an associate in 2017, having previously summered and articled with the firm.  Mary’s practice is focused on corporate, commercial and real estate law.  Prior to rejoining Mandell Pinder, she worked at an Aboriginal law firm with primarily First Nations clientele.  Her practice experience includes specific claims, consultation and accommodation, corporate/commercial law and First Nations and corporate governance.  Mary is honoured to use her legal skills to assist Indigenous communities achieve their community and nation objectives.  She especially treasures her time working with Elders.

Mary graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. During law school, she completed co-op terms that gave her exposure to diverse practice areas, particularly Aboriginal law and administrative law.  She also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada, participated in UVIC’s Environmental Law Centre Clinic, and served on the executive of the UVIC Indigenous Law Students Association.

Prior to law, Mary worked as an educator and communications advisor with Indigenous communities in BC and the Yukon and other parts of western Canada.  Her career experience includes teaching adult literacy, coordinating the development of the UBC NITEP Indigenous secondary teacher education program, and working with Statistics Canada to increase Indigenous communities’ access to data through statistical training and other outreach activities. 

Outside of work, Mary enjoys time with family and friends, traveling, appreciating and creating art and being outdoors as much as possible.
