Kelsey McDermott joined Mandell Pinder LLP in 2018 after practicing at a Vancouver law firm specializing in business law. Kelsey is both a business lawyer and a chartered professional accountant. She has experience in structuring business arrangements, valuing businesses, negotiating and concluding purchase and sale agreements, and a variety of other commercial agreements. Kelsey’s clients appreciate her pragmatic advice that is grounded in her finance and accounting experience.
Kelsey is thrilled to have the opportunity to apply her experience to assisting First Nations in matters of governance, economic development, and the evaluation and negotiation of business opportunities.
Kelsey has acted as general counsel for owner-operated businesses in numerous industries, advising on structuring, drafting and negotiation of a variety of commercial agreements, employment issues, succession planning and employee share participation. She has acted for buyers and sellers of construction, healthcare, manufacturing, professional services and private security businesses and commercial land transactions. She has experience acting for family groups in contentious estate and matrimonial situations; and has represented borrowers and lenders in negotiating and understanding secured lending.
Kelsey completed her Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. Kelsey completed her accounting articles at a national accounting firm where she gained experience in audit and assurance, valuations and tax.
Kelsey is the treasurer of the Sunflower Early Learning Society, a past treasurer of the Central Vancouver Cycling Club, and is active in the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, having served as treasurer, co-chair and chair of the executive of the Business Law Section.
